For Melanie, teaching is about instilling passion and discovering potential. Offering students the opportunity to explore the knowledge incorporated within the study of dance and performance. Throughout Melanie’s years of dance experience and studies, she has come to understand that for students, a strong foundation in all genres and dance styles is cultivated by the provision of professional guidance and understanding.

Melanie has trained for many years in the styles of Ballet (RAD), Contemporary, Lyrical, Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop (ATOD) and Tap (Newcastle and Glenwood), completing graded examinations. Melanie has been fortunate enough to dance not only in Australia but also overseas, including the USA (New York and LA) and UK (London).

Melanie then went on to further her studies in dance and education at the University of New South Wales, completing a B.Arts (Dance, Theatre & Performance) B.Edn. Accredited by the NSW Department of Education & Communities and a member of the NSW Institute of Teachers.

Subsequently, Melanie became an Affiliate member of the ATOD. As an Affiliate Member of the ATOD she can not only teach the ATOD syllabuses and offer quality tuition to students, but enter student for Examinations, Competitions and Scholarships at all levels in Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Tap and Hip-Hop.

Over the years Melanie has performed nationally and internationally. She has worked in live stage performance, musicals and well known television series. Melanie has also choreographed for season launches of well-known Australian fashion brands, modelled for both dance & non-dance related fashion companies and choreographed for various dance shows and musicals.

For Melanie, Sonic aspires to offer students the means and resources to fulfil their dance and performance dreams, whether that involves learning the basics, excelling in HSC dance or working to progress to a professional level.
